Foundation ewes were purchased from three studs to provide a base to select the animals that performed best under the Jilakin Downs low maintenance approach to livestock production. Rams have been purchased with backgrounds from

• South African studs Tien Jordaan, Woelwater, Mickey Phillips, John Dell and Theuns Viljoen
• Australian Studs Douwana, Kaya and Amarula

The progeny from this genetics has been retained, where they have excellent muscling, growth, shedding, temperament and birthing ease.

Certain lines have been selected against, to correct faults such as poor shedding, feet and leg problems and an unsuitable temperament

We rely on natural joining because this is how sheep are produced in commercial flocks.
